Irene Fitzgerald

Ruth Irene Fitzgerald, widow of Henry Ralph Fitzgerald, Sr., passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was born June 14, 1925 in Vesuvius, a daughter of the late Samuel W. and Lona (Campbell) Painter.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Henry Ralph Fitzgerald, Jr.; granddaughter, Kaylynn Gardner; as well as four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan F. Foster and husband, Bobby of Lynchburg; sister, Mary Frances Frazier and husband, Nelson; six grandchildren, Tiffany Fitzgerald (Jamie), Hank Fitzgerald, Janna Joyner (Andrew), Hilary Basham (Jonathan), Robb Foster (Samantha), Madison Fitzgerald; seven great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St. Waynesboro with Pastor Duane Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be family members attending the service.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ruth loved bright colors and red was her favorite. The family would like for you to remember her in that way by wearing something red or bright.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund of Westminster Canterbury, 501 VES Road, Lynchburg, Va. 24503.
