Born January 11, 1922 in Covesville, VA, he was the son of the late John Bland Toms and Dultry Deane (Mawyer) Toms.
Mr. Toms was a former member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Stuarts Draft. He was a U.S. Veteran having served honorably in WWII with the Army Air Corps 13th (Jungle) Air Force. He worked as a Virginia State Trooper, and in his later years for a trucking company as a safety engineer and as a retail furniture manager.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Clara Cullen Toms; son, John B. Toms III of Richmond; brother, Ronald T. Toms and wife Shirley B. of North Garden, VA; nephew, Roger T. Toms of Milton, GA; niece, Susan K. Campbell of Winchester, VA.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main Street, with Pastor Matthew Coiner officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
