

He was a longtime member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. He was retired after 40 years at the DuPont Company. He proudly served in the US Army stationed in Germany during World War II.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Walter, son, Gary Walter and daughter-law, Joyce Pellam. He is also survived by his sister Minnie Gray Drumheller. In addition he is survived by four grandchildren, Jeannie Walter, Jolene Walter (Dan Place,) Andrew Schilling (Amanda Schilling) and Jonathan Schilling; three great-grandchildren, Riley Jacobson and Leah and Micah Place; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Helen Walter; sister, Edith Bunch and brother, Earl Walter.
On behalf of the family, special thanks is extended for the kind and expert assistance of Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah employees during his stay at Shenandoah House.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday March 22, 2013 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home.
A service in celebration of John’s life will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 23 at Waynesboro Church of the Brethren by his pastor Todd Crowder.
Burial service will be family only at the Augusta Memorial Park prior to the memorial service.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Bunch, Wesley Knous and Jeff, Marty, Tanner and Will Walter.
