
June Haven Curry “The Cookie Lady”, 91, of Afton, passed away on Monday July 16, 2012 at Avante of Waynesboro.
Mrs. Curry was born on February 8, 1921 in Afton, VA and was the daughter of the late Harold and Nora (Jones) Haven. She was best known for opening her home to cyclists and hikers as a place of rest, and always prepared cookies for them.
June is survived by a daughter, Judy Mundy of Monsey, NY. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Curry was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Raymond T. Mundy.
A graveside service will be held on Friday July 20, 2012 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 7599 Rockfish Gap (Rt. 250 West), Greenwood, VA 22943, at 11 AM with Rev. Matthew Coiner officiating. There will be no formal visitation; however friends may sign the register book from 9 am until 5 pm on Thursday July 19, 2012 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Almost Home, 29 Stagebridge Rd, Lovingston, VA 22949. Almost Home is a no-kill animal shelter, a cause that Mrs. Curry held near to her heart.
