Born March 24, 1954 in Albemarle County, he was the son of Leola (Phillips) Bruce and the late Fred Bruce.
Lanny was an avid outdoorsman, supporter of the BACA Motorcycle Club and a member of the Red Cross.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Phillips.
Survivors include his son, Scott Phillips and wife, Christy of Staunton; daughter, Lisa Ross and husband, David of Lyndhurst; grandchildren, Jasmine, Miakota and Joseph Phillips, Brandi Moomau and Candace Borkey; great grandchildren, Isaac, Derek, Jayce, Deegan and Jackson.
Following cremation, a memorial gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Ridgeview Park.
