

Born February 14, 1922 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Bernard M. and Ethel (Hite) Campbell.
Mabel was a member of SherLynd Baptist Church and had previously taught Sunday School. Being employed with the former I.E. DuPont, she began work for the company on September 19, 1944 and after 39 ½ years of faithful service she retired on February 28, 1984. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens and was known for mowing her own lawn until the age of 88.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel T. Painter in 1969 and her second husband, Charles H. Truslow in 1998; daughter, Lucille Marion in 2010; great-grandson, Eddie Dean, Jr.; siblings, Elwood Campbell, Benard Campbell, Jr., Samuel Campbell, Marjorie Campbell Todd, Shelvia Johnson, Evelyn Painter, Mildred Henderson and Annie Campbell.
Survivors include her children John Thomas “Tommy” Painter and wife, Linda of Lubbock, TX and Leonard Stanley Painter and wife, Billie of Stuarts Draft, VA; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; sisters, Hilda Huffer and husband, Odell and Betty Taylor.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St. with Pastor Allen George officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Clarence Henderson, Jr., Morris Henderson, Lukas Todd, Mike Painter, Charles Painter and Marvin Tucker.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the funeral home.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to the staff of Birch Gardens and Hospice of the Shenandoah for their love and care of Mabel.
