Obituary of Nancy Kennedy
Nancy May (Crissman) Kennedy, 92, of Crimora passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. Born March 15, 1924 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Horace Edgar and Cora (Ball) Crissman. Nancy was a lifetime member of Crimora United Methodist Church. Attending church softball games was one of her greatest joys. She loved spending time with her family. She could always be found sitting on her front porch or working in her flower beds. Nancy was known for her homemade bread and some knew her as the “Bread Lady” as well as “Grandma” to her family and the community. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend to many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wallace Kennedy, Sr.; brothers, Claude, Homer, James and Glenn Crissman; sister, Marie McCroy. Survivors include her loving children, Linda Blevins and husband, Roger of Crimora, Barbara Knecht and husband, Robert of Waynesboro, Joe Kennedy and wife, Mary of Crimora and John Kennedy, Jr. and wife, April of Waynesboro; brother, Paul Crissman and wife, Suellen of Crimora; sister, Alois Clapham of Newport News, VA; sister-in-law, Vernell Crissman of Crimora; grandchildren, Mike Wells and wife, Susan, Debbie Cash, Bobby Knecht and wife, Janet, Beth Kohler and husband, Bobby, Bonnie Childress and husband, Kenny, Denny Blevins and wife, Jennifer, Dana Craig and husband, Chris, Harley Kennedy and wife, Marie, Chip Stratton and wife, Robyn, Christie Henderson and husband, Robert, Michelle Sutton and husband, Rick, Jennifer Critzer and husband, Gary and Steven Keene; 50 great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., with the Rev. Gayle Thornberry and Pastor Mike Wells, her grandson officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Denny Blevins, Harley Kennedy, Steven Keene, Chip Stratton, Chris Craig, Rick Sutton, Gary Critzer and Robert Henderson. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
