Robert O. Emerson

Robert O. Emerson, 84, of Waynesboro died on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born on October 8, 1926 in Mansfield, Ohio and was the son of the late Harley F. and Myrtle Frazer Emerson.

He attended Mansfield city schools and Indiana University before enlisting in the United States Army. Robert served with the 65th Engineer Battalion in the Philippines and occupied Japan. On June 4, 1960, he married Marilyn J. Barr, who survives.

Robert moved to Charlottesville, Virginia and was employed as a tool and die maker for Ovenaire, Inc. In 1965, he moved his family to Waynesboro, Virginia and continued his employment as a tool and die maker for Klann, Inc. and later with AMP, Inc. until his retirement in 1991.

He was a charter and active member of Central Point Christian Church in Fishersville, Virginia until his death. Robert enjoyed water skiing and power boating, was an avid bowler and also enjoyed model trains and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by one brother, Thomas and Joan Emerson of Lisbon, OH; two sons, Curtis Emerson of Laurel, MD, Steven & Kim Emerson of Weyers Cave, VA; two daughters, Amy Emerson of Waynesboro, VA, Peggy & Jesse Bryant of Fishersville, VA; three grandchildren, Katilyn Duggins of Waynesboro, VA and Kyle and Luke Bryant of Fishersville, VA: and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Emerson Berger of Statesville, NC and Rae Louise Emerson of Mansfield, OH.

The family will receive friends at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro, 618 West Main Street, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at the Central Point Christian Church on Goose Creek Road in Fishersville.
