

He was born July 17, 1932, a son of the late Robert Marcellaus, Sr., and Ruby Harlo Wiseman Rankin.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, a member of Second Presbyterian Church, a member of American Legion Post 340 and retired from Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1952.
Survivors include his wife, Treva Rankin; sons, Michael Dale Rankin of Stuarts Draft, Robert Eugene Leach of Churchville, Edward Dale Leach of Dooms; daughter, Dianna Faye Harris and husband, Joe of Stuarts Draft; brother, Marshall Lee Rankin of Mint Spring, and Patty Lotts, who he considered a sister; special friends, Sue Taylor, Kathy Colley and Barbara Cook; grandchildren, Derrick Rankin and wife, Jennifer, Jeremy Dale Leach and wife, Nicole, Brandon Robert Leach, Justin Dale Leach and wife, Pam, Amanda Ware and Courtney Johnson; great grandchildren, Serenity Johnson, Khloe Maa Johnson, Remington Lee Mason, Jeremiah Nichlas Leach, Alexis Ware and Alana Ware.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes by The Rev. Dr. John McDonald. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park with military rites provided by American Legion Post 340.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Cason, Bruce Cason and his grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Carpenter, Henry Cason, Trooper Callison, Rodger Pleasants, Lyle Giecian, Dee Giecian, friends and family of Second Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the funeral home.
