

He was born in West Virginia on April 9, 1933, a son of the late Hobert Lawrence and Georgie (Robinson) Sholes.
Sergeant Sholes honorably served his country in the United State Air Force, was a member of Fishersville Community Church and retired from the Virginia State Police with the rank of Sergeant after 32 years and 10 months of service. Following his retirement, he could be found tending to his garden, especially his tomato plants.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory S. Sholes.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine “Kay” Seward Sholes, two sons, Josh A. Sholes and wife Cherie, John L. Sholes and wife, Lori; daughter, Anna K. (Sholes) Burnett and husband Keith; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Chris Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park with honors provided by the Virginia Department of State Police.
Active and Honorary pallbearers will members of the Virginia Department of State Police.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24th, 2025 at the funeral home.
