Born April 24, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Octer T. and Mary Magdalene (Whitesell) Gordon.
Prior to retirement, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer. She was an avid gardener and woodworker; a true homebody who loved to watch baseball and westerns. Shirley was a member of the Middle River Church of the Brethren Fort Defiance and enjoyed her Tuesday night bowling league with family and friends. Neighbors would frequent her “612 Coffee Shop” and enjoy time well-spent and lively conversation with this fiercely independent, outdoor loving, hard-working woman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Winston Wampler on December 20, 2022. The Wamplers enjoyed a loving marriage for 61 years.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Charles Gordon and wife, Jackie of Waynesboro; sister, Janet Ritenour of Waynesboro; nieces and nephew, Teresa Robertson, Leslie Campbell, Melissa Dawson, Mary Stanley, and Jeffery Ritenour; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Goose Creek Road, Waynesboro with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, P.O. Box 937, Verona, VA 24482.
