

Suzanne was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Marion R. Mathieu and Thomas Mathieu on December 20th, 1950. Suzanne was an adventurous, generous soul, who was always looking to serve others. She was very handy around the house, was quick to help and had a large supply of power tools to loan out. She retired as a Correctional Officer at Coffeewood Correctional Center in Culpeper after 10 years of service. When not working, Suzanne was heavily involved in with her church family at St. Nicholas Orthodox church, where she was very well known and loved. She was recently re-elected to a position with the Audit Committee with the UOC of USA, was involved with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, and was a member of the Old Virginia Primitive Riflemen. Suzanne loved to travel and see the country.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents.
Suzanne is survived by her beloved daughter, Kathleen Cornell (Manny Cohan) of Corpus Christy, TX; stepmother, Nancy Lucas; cousin, Donald Yehle (Karen); special friends, Susan Finley, Jane Cassidy and Tina Brun; as well as her wonderful church family at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Lastly, Suzanne is survived by her feline sidekicks, Yenta and Lady Margarett.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 11th, 2025 at 10:00 AM, at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church (7581 Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Greenwood, VA) with Father Michael Abrahamson officiating. Following the funeral, Suzanne will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro.
