Thomas Roy Miller

Thomas Roy Miller, age 87, of Waynesburg, PA passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025. He was born on November 21, 1937 to the late Boyd and Ella (Hankinson) Miller of Plum Township, PA. He married Tressa Ann Brown on August 16, 1957 of Ebensburg, PA.

Tom proudly served as a Radioman in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force from 1955 to 1963. He was stationed onboard the USS Florikan (ARS-9) and USS Nereus (AS-17) in Alaska and San Diego, CA. He returned to Ebensburg, PA where he worked in variety of mechanical and materials producing positions. In 1966, he moved his family to Williamsport, PA where he worked as a machinist at AVCO.

In 1972, Tom took a position with CONOCO as a mining research technician, and moved to Waynesburg. He performed pioneering research in mining and horizontal drilling and earned 8 US Patents and several international Patents. He was nominated to the United Nations People to People project to teach best-in-class mining safety practices to a select group of foreign nations.

After retirement in 1993, Tom formed a consulting company and worked for Kennametal and RJ Lee among others. He later built and managed Shady Cove Marina in Dilliner, PA and a tire recycling plant in Bloomsburg, PA. He consulted on tire reclamation plants and operations in Ohio, Michigan and Australia.

Tom loved listening to all genres of music, playing acoustic guitar and writing songs. He also enjoyed many outdoor activities especially boating, fishing and tennis. He was a director of the Waynesburg Sportsman Association. Tom loved acquiring knowledge, fixing and inventing machinery and, most of all, being of service to friends, family and animals.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Tressa of 67 years; his son Thomas Mark (Loretta) Miller; and his daughter Yvonne Miller, all of Rose Valley, PA.

A Celebration of Life his life will be held from 2-4 pm on June 26 at Behm Funeral Home in Waynesburg, PA. The family asks that no flowers or food be sent.
