

Arlie Wilson Hughes Jr., age 79, of Clyde, NC passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Arlie was born on July 8, 1945, in Springfield, MO to the late Arlie Sr. and Marcia Hough Hughes. He enjoyed golfing, traveling playing baseball, skating, NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs and was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan. Arlie was a member of the Waynesville Police Department Civilian Police Division. Most of all, Arlie loved spending time with his family and will always be remembered as a prankster.
Arlie's career started out in Springfield, MO with Dayco, then took him to Walterboro, SC and then to Waynesville as Purchasing Manager, where he retired after 30 years of faithful service. While there Arlie received the GM Five Steps Award. Arlie then worked as the Purchasing Manager at Carefree Windows in Asheville for 14 years.
In addition to his parents, Arlie was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbie Hughes; granddaughter, Tabatha Blankenship; and brother, Larry Hughes.
Arlie is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Joyce G. Pilkington Hughes; son, Bob Hughes (Chris); daughter, Brandeline Sorrells (Jeff); grandchildren, Ashleigh, Libby and Lauren; great-grandchild, Henry; sister, Jackie Reynolds (Bill); sisters-in-law, Verna Hughes and Cathy Reece; brother-in-law, Robert Goodson; and several special nieces, nephews and close friends.
At Arlie's request, Private Services will be held. The family is receiving friends at the residence.
