Ben Farley

Canton-Benjamin “Ben” W. Farley, 87, of Canton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 30, 2015. Ben was born in Graham County on August 29, 1928 to the late William and Martha Green Farley. Ben enjoyed Bluegrass and Gospel Music as well as watching Westerns and playing his harmonica. He was known by the children at East Fork Baptist Church, of which he was a longtime member, as the “Lollipop Man”. Ben had a beautiful view of Cold Mountain from his house and loved to watch the Humming Birds out on his front porch. He could always be found leading the conversation with the crowd at Ben’s Place in Bethel. Ben retired from the Air Force after honorably serving in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. In addition to his parents Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Kate Milner Farley; and brother, Vernon Farley. Ben is survived by three sons, Keith Farley and his wife, Sheila, of Clyde, Brian Farley and his wife Nancy, of Canton, and Kevin Farley and his wife, Amy, of Knoxville; a brother, Sam Farley and his wife Sue; three sisters, Marlyn McFalls and her husband, Bob, Azalea Goolsby, and Geraldine Mann and her husband, Jerry; a sister-in-law, Mary Farley; his grandchildren, Chanda, Casey, Austin, Sidney, Caden and Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 3, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations with Pastor Matt Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice in care of the Haywood Healthcare Foundation at 262 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or to Haywood County Meals on Wheels at 157 Paragon Parkway, Clyde, NC 28721.
