Waynesville-Billy Joe Haney, Sr., 79 passed away on February 5, 2020. Billy was born in Haywood County on August 18, 1940, to the late Joseph R. and Edith Swanger Haney. He was an avid fisherman who grew most of his own food and raised pigs. In his younger years, he owned and operated his own service station and lived in Catawba and Gaston Counties. He was well known for his ability to swap, trade, and wheel and deal.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Pressley; son, Bobby L. Haney; daughter, Delia L Haney; brothers, David and Paul Haney, and Charles Turner; sister, Marilyn Moore; and one grandchild.
Billy is survived by his sons, Joseph Moore, Jeremy Revis, Billy Jr., Tim, and Josh Haney; daughters, Tammy Moore and life partner, Sharon Greer and Karen Sisk; brother, Terry Haney (Alice) and Larry Troutman; sister, Maureen Troutman; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; his “Living Angel”, Teresa Brooks; and the mother of Billy’s children, Tammy and Joe, Pansy Barnes.
A memorial service celebrating Billy’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Ronnie W. Parker officiating. Inurnment will be private.
