

Charles Phillip (Chip) Drueding, born February 24, 1939, passed away in Asheville, NC on September 23. His family and friends are deeply saddened by his departure. A U.S. Navy veteran, Chip was stationed in Japan, where his squadron provided offshore support for aircraft carriers during the Cold War. In 1968, he earned a degree in aviation engineering from Northrop Institute of Technology. He spent his civilian career as a mechanical engineer for United Airlines and as an insurance underwriter for Travelers Insurance. In retirement, Chip applied his considerable design and construction talents to property rehabilitations in Georgia and Florida. His passion for tennis resulted in a 2014 win in the men’s Caloosa Racquet Club’s Annual Spring Tournament. In recent years, Chip shared his life with Madeline (Maddy) Mayor in Fort Myers, FL and Asheville, NC. He was married for 15 years to Nancy J. (Janie) Drueding (1945-2001). Chip is survived by his sister Alice Drueding (Joe Scorsone), brother David Drueding (Susan Stabile), sister-in-law Marcia Jones, niece Elena Stabile and nephew Emmett Drueding. He was predeceased by his brother Richard F. Drueding (d. 2016), his mother, Elizabeth Drueding and his father Charles Drueding. Chip will be remembered by his family in a private celebration of his life. A public memorial service is planned for Monday, October 30, 11:00am at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, NC.
