Dorothy “Dot” Clara Moore, 89, of Waynesville, NC, passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born Dorothy Clara Henry on August 27, 1935, in Franklin, NC, she was the daughter of Ed and Willie Conley Henry and a proud graduate of Elizabethton High School, in Tennessee.
A cherished member of her community, Dot was known for her caring and thoughtful nature. As a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she embodied the true meaning of family and friendship.
In 1959, Dot married William “Bill” Moore, and together they raised four children. She owned and operated Ratcliff Cove Country Store which was a favorite of the locals and served as a social hub where Dot fostered deep connections with her neighbors. Dot and Bill were active members of Ratcliff Cove Baptist Church for many years, where she engaged in extensive volunteer work. Later, she became a treasured member of Elizabeth Chapel Methodist Church.
Dot enjoyed reading, camping with Bill in their RV, and, most importantly, spending time with her family. She selflessly put the needs of others before her own, dedicating her time to gardening, canning, cooking, and hosting family gatherings. Her home was a welcoming haven, filled with love and laughter, embodying the heart of her family and community.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William Moore; her parents, Ed and Willie Conley Henry; brothers Jack and Charles; and sisters Helen, Blanche and Marie. She is survived by her son, Greg Moore of Waynesville, NC; daughters Pat Moore Henry (John Queen) of Waynesville, NC, Brenda Moore Clark (Larry Clark) of Waynesville, NC, and Dianna Moore of Wilmington, NC; as well as four grandsons—Dallas, Pike, Lewis, and Tommy—and five granddaughters—Trina, Ivy, Dana, Sarah, and Buffy. She also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Dot’s legacy of love will forever live on through her family and all who were fortunate to know her. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, unwavering dedication to family, and her service to her community and church.
