1928-2015 James Wilson McElroy, 87, died on December 16, 2015, at his residence after declining health. Wilson was born in Haywood County on March 15, 1928, to the late Grady and Elizabeth Putnam McElroy. Wilson enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and mechanicing. In addition to his parents, Wilson was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry McElroy; and a sister, Ruby Lunsford. Wilson is survived by three sons, Neal McElroy, Eugene McElroy, and Ronnie McElroy (Brenda); two daughters Judy Messer and Brenda Rogers (Perry); a sister, Mary Karriker; grandchildren, Jessica, Kristy, April, James, and Josh; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 20, at Liberty Baptist Church with the Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of Perry and Brenda Rogers.
