

Jessica Ann Kimmey King, 65, passed away Thursday, November 14th at the Elizabeth House Hospice Center in Flat Rock, NC.
Jessica was born February 11, 1959 in Columbia, SC the daughter of John Lansing Kimmey and Jane Kennedy Kimmey. After high school in Columbia, Jessica attended Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina where she received a degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Jessica started her medical career at Emory University hospital in Atlanta. After moving to San
Francisco in 1983 with her husband Steve, Jessica continued working as a Respiratory
Therapist. After another move in 1990 to Asheville, NC Jessica finished her career working at
Mission hospital in Asheville.
In addition to her parents, Jessica was preceded in death by her brother, Lansing Kimmey. She
is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years (Stephen King), sister Julia Mullen (Chuck) and
brother Gerrit Kimmey. She was extremely proud of her two daughters Kathleen King and Julia
King, both now living in the Asheville area. She also had a special love for her grandchildren
Virginia, Eleanor, Evie, Marcus and seven nieces and one nephew. Bill and Shelagh Byrne, who
moved to Asheville from San Francisco with Steve and Jessica, were long time dear friends and
business partners at The Cafe on the Square starting in 1990.
Jessica will always be remembered for her bodacious personality. Her unfiltered style was
refreshing. She always had a humorous perspective on religion, politics and on the curveballs
from life that came her way. She adjusted her lifestyle from an outstanding athlete to a full time
mother and wife after a multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2005. She was a role model of strength
for all of her family and friends as she endured her medical issues.
Jessica will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to cross paths with her.
A Memorial service will be held Friday, December 6th at St. Eugene Catholic Church in
Asheville.
A celebration of life will be held on June 29, 2025 at Jessicaś and Steveś outdoor wedding spot
near Jenner, California, where the Russian River meets the sea.
