

Waynesville-Johnny Howell Robinson, 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 30, 2016. Howell was born in Haywood County on October 27, 1924, to the late Ernest and Effie Mae Putnam Robinson. Howell graduated from WTHS and worked at Enka/BASF for over forty years. He served honorably in the US Army, 29th Infantry Division and was a distinguished member of the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach. Howell received a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts for his service. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors. Howell adored his grandchildren, loved his family, and cherished his time spent with his sister, Betty. He attended both Allens Creek Baptist Church and Red Bank Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Howell was preceded in death by his son, Johnny P. Robinson; two great-granddaughters, Keaton and Keylee Robinson; brothers, Earl, Cecil, and Donald Sr. Robinson; and his sisters, Ruth Passmore, Dorothy Cochran, and Ernestine Gardner. Howell is survived by a sister, Betty Jo Snyder, of Waynesville; grandchildren, Garrett Robinson and his wife Wendy of Morganton; Cynthia Robinson of Morganton; Bradley Robinson and his wife Honnye of Morganton; and Brian Singleton and his wife Laura, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his great-grandchildren, Alison of Westchester, Pennsylvania; Blake and Logan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Chelsea, Benjamin, Kross, Tristan, Aaliyah, and Kiera of Morganton; and his great-great-grandchildren, William and Samuel of Westchester, Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, January 4, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Jack Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
