Lester Dee Lanning

Lester Dee Lanning, age 84, of Waynesville, NC passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Lester was born in Waynesville, NC on June 17, 1939 to the late Sam and Hannah Phillips Lanning.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Lillie Lanning; sisters, Thelma Hensley, Barbara Golden, and Brenda James; and one brother, Tom Lanning.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Margaret (Doug) Steinel; one granddaughter, Ashley Steinel; brothers, George (Mary) Lanning, Ned (Dorothy) Lanning; brother in laws, Kenneth (Patsy) Lanning, Albert (Jean) Lanning, Jim Lunsford and Sam Gaddis; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Ron Morrow, George Stickel, Charlie "Rat" Birchfield, and Ronnie Dickson.

Funeral Services for Lester will be held at 2 PM Thursday, January 18, 2024 in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Reverend Barry Willett and Reverend Phillip Wyatt officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday prior to the service from 1 to 2 PM at the funeral home.

Burial will follow services at Green Hill Cemetery.
