Lillian Marie McGee Owen

Waynesville-Lillian M. Owen, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 22, 2016, at The Homestead. Lillian was born in Haywood County on May 21, 1930, to the late Hilliard Sr. and Lucile Russell McGee. Lillian enjoyed gardening in her flowers, volunteering at Haywood Christian Ministries, and sitting on her porch watching the birds and keeping a close eye on her cat, Dennis. She was a strong woman of faith who enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her family. Lillian was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Owen, Jr.; her brother, Hilliard McGee, Jr.; and her granddaughter, Nichole Mathis Reeves. Lillian is survived by her daughters, Eva Mathis (Doyle), Kathy Austin, and Sharon Earley (Jimmy); her brothers, Jack Jr. and Jerry Patton; her sisters, Louise Hewett, Marquietta Holcombe, and Debra Connor; her grandchildren, Stacey Wyatt and Kristi Sutton; and her great-grandchildren, Arden Grace Reeves, Chloe Taylor, Christian Wyatt, and Leah Wyatt. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 25, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Jennings Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
