1947 – 2017 Waynesville, NC – Martha B. Lanning, 70, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 5, 2017 at her home. She was born on January 16, 1947 to the late Robert and Mary Green Burgess. She retired from BASF in Candler following 29 ½ years of service. Following her retirement she worked at the Balsam Mountain Inn and Haywood Regional Medical Center. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Harold Lanning and a daughter, Mary Sue Lanning. Left to cherish her memory are son, Clinton Lanning and his wife, Laura; grandchildren, Hunter, Tyler and Tanner; two brothers, John Burgess and David Burgess; sister, Betty Russell; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Bethel Cemetery.
