Rosemary Nestor, Born January 15 1922 died March 15 2013, was the daughter of the late Martin J. Nestor and Norine Nestor (Downes) and sister to her deceased siblings, the late Martin T.Nestor(Gladys), William Nestor, Sr. (Katie), Norine Nestor(Davis) Thomas Nestor, Sr.(Boots) ,Robert Nestor, Sr. (Evelyn); nephew, the late John Nestor and niece, the late,Nancy Nestor. She is survived by her youngest sister Geraldine Nestor who resides in Farmington Missouri, and the families of numerous nieces and nephews. She is deeply missed by her grand-nephew and niece; Nestor E. Wheelock and his partner Dan Walk, Daniel Flynn, and Abigail (Flynn) Garotta who remained in a close loving relationship with her throughout her old age.
She loved the education she received from the Sisters of Loretta. She attended Nerinx Hall High-school for Girls and graduated with top honors from Webster College. She often spoke of her time at Nerinx as the best time of her life, "it was joyous, picking apples in the orchard garden and reading poetry under the massive oak trees. It was unbelievably wonderful.” Her family was her first love and she was dedicated to her brothers and sisters and very generous with her money in time of anyone's need. She loved cats and always had a pet or two living and sleeping with her. She was an avid reader and lover of good American literature and appreciated the French language.
She worked her whole career at the Missouri State Employment offices in the city of St. Louis and surrounding counties. She rose in the all-male ranks to become a state manager during a time when it was a rare event to have a women recognized as the best candidate for a managerial position. She remained dedicated to her employment and to her elderly parents, whom she lived with, until their deaths. After her retirement, she lived in the family home on Maryland Ave.
When she could no longer drive she invited her grand-nephew and his partner to share her home where she had numerous cats and dogs. When it became in her best physical interest to leave her home, she resided at Bethesda Dilworth Nursing Home on Big Bend Blvd. She received excellent care from the staff at Bethesda during her stay. The family would like to extend a special thanks to nurse Lisa and nurse Maria and the staff on the first and second divisions at Bethesda Dilworth and to the Alternative Hospice Team and to her private physician Joseph Flaherty,M.D. The care she received was superior in every way possible.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 A.M. Monday, March 18, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, where the family will receive friends from 8:45 until time of Mass. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
