If a picture next to the word “Matriarch” was ever needed, there would be no other person that would fit the mold more perfectly than Betty. Her grace, wit, charm, flair of style, unwavering strength, faith, and devotion to family always came so natural for her. Betty had three beautiful passions in her life: her church, her family, and her community. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Lacassine, where over the course of her lifetime served on numerous councils, committees, and societies. She was actively involved in all functions associated with Lacassine High School. She kept her Lacassine community close to her heart and volunteered her time when needed. Her greatest dedication was to her family. It was on a very rare occasion that Betty missed any type of family activity that included her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She attended births, baptisms, first communions, confirmations, weddings, awards banquets, basketball games, baseball games, track meets, livestock shows, and dance recitals just to name a few. There was nothing in her families’ lives that she was not involved with. Her social calendar was busier than most between school functions, community functions, church obligations, and her family and friends. Wonderful memories and stories of her will be told for generations to come because of every life she touched.
Betty was married to the love of her life, Bobbie Lee Bourgeois, for 56 years before he passed away in 2011. The legacy that Betty leaves behind is her three sons, Greg Bourgeois and wife, Perri, Charles Bourgeois and wife, Valerie, and Phillip Bourgeois; one daughter Pam Bourgeois Logan and husband, Dale Logan, all of Lacassine. Her eleven grandchildren who will serve as pallbearers include Jason Bourgeois and wife, Tara, Nicole Bourgeois Doucet and husband, Randall, Kyle Bourgeois and wife, Angelle, Lindsey Bourgeois Crookshank and husband, Jason, Todd Bourgeois, Adrian Logan and wife, Allison, Katie Bourgeois Davis and husband, Richard, Allison Logan Jones and husband, Ben, Devin Bourgeois and wife, Estelle, Nick Bourgeois and companion, Tehya Langley, and Mckenzie Bourgeois. Betty has 20 amazing great-grandchildren: Charley Logan, Seth Bourgeois, Kole Bourgeois, Halli Davis, Sawyer Bourgeois, Karson Bourgeois, Heidi Davis, Cooper Logan, Luke Crookshank, Wyatt Doucet, Sydney Bourgeois, Lyle Crookshank, Hanna Davis, Lincoln Crookshank, Clint Doucet, Emma Logan, Hilary Davis, Wade Davis, Eli Jones, Camden Logan, and #21 on the way. She is also survived by her four sisters, Lou Stelly, Loula Ann “Yannie” Prudhomme, Naomi “Mickey” LeBlanc, and Elaine Broussard.
In addition to her spouse Bobbie, she was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Claude Mott, Sr., her two brothers Claude Mott, Jr. and Raymond Mott, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bourgeois, her five brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
