Alfredo Barrera Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 1, 2025 at the age of 88, surrounded by the family who loved him deeply. His life was defined by hard work, a strong will, orgullo (pride) and an irresistible sense of humor that could lighten up the darkest days.
Born to his parents, Maria and Jose Barrera, Alfredo’s determination to succeed allowed him to become a self-taught welder, builder and jack-of-all-trades. He was also an accomplished musician whose love of music was woven into the fabric of his life. Whether performing or simply gathering with friends and family to share a song, he found deep fulfillment in entertaining others with a song or a joke. His music, much like his laughter, created memories that will echo through the generations he leaves behind.
Alfredo is survived by his loving wife, Elvira Yanez Barrera, and five living children: Ana Maria (Ricardo) Montoya, David (Francis) Barrera, Noe (Elsa) Barrera, Enedelia (Rene+) Riojas, and Alfredo Jr (Sara) who will forever cherish his guidance and the example he set. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed to know his love, humor and storytelling spirit. He is preceded in death by one son, Jose (Fausta) Barrera, and one great-granddaughter, Amberlee Barrera, with whom he now reunites in eternal rest.
Alfredo is also survived by two siblings; Isabelle Hernandez and David Barrera. Proceeding him in death are siblings Juanita Sarabia, Enrique Barrera, and Luis Barrera.
Those who knew Alfredo will remember a man who worked with his hands, led with determination, laughed with his whole heart, and played music with a soul full of passion. His home was a place of stories, songs, and countless moments of joy.
Though he is no longer with us, his memory—strong, vibrant, and full of life—will continue to comfort and inspire all who loved him. His family takes solace in knowing he passed peacefully, wrapped in love.
May he rest in everlasting peace.
