Arturo Cortines, age 75, of Edinburg, Texas left to be with the Lord on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Edinburg Nursing & Rehab Center. Arturo was born in Brownsville, Texas on February 7, 1948 to his parents Manuel & Filomena Cortines.
Mr. Cortines was both serious and funny, he could crack a joke at a moment's notice. He had a gift for making friends easily, there was not a stranger that he could meet and not talk to. He will be remembered for all his wonderful attributes.
Arturo was a hard worker and a good provider. He honorably served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, he later spent over 50 years living in Houston where he was able to work for several oil companies such as: Baker Hughes & Hunting Oil as a precise welder. He loved sports, particularly soccer and baseball. Arturo also enjoyed fishing, bowling; he loved to BBQ, singing and whistling, cutting his yard and always having his lawn well-kept. Another one of his past times was watching westerns on TV and his favorite expression was "Good Grief".
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Elma G. Cortines; daughter, Sonya (Joe) Riley and five grandchildren: Alyssa & Tony Mosqueda, Madeline Henry, Andrew Henry, and Sophia Riley. He will also be greatly missed by his sisters; Elizabeth Garcia, Martha Flores and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel & Filomena Cortines, and his sister Delia Cortines.
Family will receive friends Friday, November 24, 2023 from 11 am to 10 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm at Funeraria del Angel Highland in Weslaco. Funeral Service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Funeraria del Angel Highland in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. In appreciation for all the love and support towards The Cortines family during these difficult times, they would like to extend a cordial invitation to a reception concluding the graveside services at Funeraria del Angel Highland in Weslaco.
