Luis Gonzaga Aquino Mendez

We are heartbroken to announce that our father, Luis G. Aquino Mendez, went to be with our Heavenly Father and entered into eternal rest on January 5, 2024. He was 74 when he passed. Luis was born in San Sebastian Abasolo Tlacolula Oaxaca Mexico, later made Weslaco Texas his permanent residence.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, Procopio Aquino Cruz, Manuela Mendez Lopez Finada and sister Isabel Aquino.

He is survived by his daughters; Esther Aquino, Ruth (Gilbert) Rodriguez, Elem S. (Lupe) Garcia, Elizabeth Aquino, his two sisters, Olivia Aquino Mendez, Juana Aquino Mendez, grandchildren; Jeremiah Rodriguez, Ethan P. Huerta, Nathan I. Huerta, Lupe E. Garcia, Karliah Rodriguez, Valeria E. Garcia, and Gilberto Rodriguez III, cousins, many nephews/nieces and many friends.

Luis proudly served in the Mexican Armed Forces from April 15, 1966 until his retirement in December 1, 1990. Luis was a devoted father, raising four girls. In 1995 his battle fighting non-Hodgkin's lymphoma this went on for 29 years until his passing, taking chemotherapy for many years.

He devoted his life to serving the lord, touching the hearts of many with his wisdom and kind nature. He will always be remembered for his good will, generosity, faith, optimism and kindness. He will be deeply missed and will be in the hearts of those he touched and left behind.

A visitation for Luis Gonzaga will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Highland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6705 North Fm 88, Weslaco, Texas 78596. A service will occur Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 7:00 PM. A chapel service will occur Friday, January 12, 2024 at 12:00 PM. A burial will occur Friday, January 12, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Highland Memorial Park, 6705 North Fm 88, Weslaco, Texas 78596.
