

Onesimo was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Antonia Ortiz, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a strong and enduring family rooted in love and faith.
He is survived by his children: Esther Ortiz; Gilberto Ortiz (Irma Ortiz Vega); Lucy Ferrer Ortiz (Adolfo Ferrer); Sergio Antonio Ortiz (Maria Ortiz); Roberto Ortiz; Sylvia Ortiz; and Griselda Ortiz. He also leaves behind a large and loving legacy of grandchildren: Jesse Ortiz, Gilbert Ortiz, Nitza Avitia (Frank Avitia), Xochil Ortiz (David), Julio Miranda, Jasmine Ortiz, Geneva Ortiz, Armando Ortiz, Marina Ortiz, Angel Ortiz, Desiree Ortiz-Truong (Ronald Truong), Joel Ortiz, Kristal Ferrer, Adolph Sergio Ferrer (Patricia), Kristina Ferrer, Alex Ferrer (Andrea), Armando Ferrer, Johnathon Silva, Sergio Ortiz, Kevin Ortiz, Allen Ortiz, Evelyn Resendez (Efrain), Deangelo Ortiz, Robert Ortiz, Mariah Ortiz, Mayte Salazar, Yanette Salazar, Josue Salazar and Mikael Ira Reyes.
He was further blessed with great-grandchildren: Mariah Phillips, Isaiah, Aiden, Abby, Eli, Genevieve, Sebastian Ferrer, Naylaa Acuna, Ethan Acuna, Daija Avitia, Adrian Avitia, Isaak Avitia, Ezekiel Avitia, Isreal Saldaña, along with many more grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
Onesimo is preceded in death by his beloved son, Armando Ortiz; his grandson, Eduardo Miranda; and his parents, Octaviano and Esther Ortiz.
A man of deep faith, Onesimo was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas. His faith guided his life, and he found comfort and strength in regularly reading his Bible. He was known as a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. He proudly served for 21 years with the police department in Juarez, Mexico, demonstrating his commitment to service and his community. A skilled handyman, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
He cherished simple pleasures—especially family cookouts, where his warmth and laughter brought everyone together. He also enjoyed watching boxing, a pastime that reflected his appreciation for strength, resilience, and determination.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria del Angel Highland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6705 North Fm 88, Weslaco, Texas 78596, on March 30, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 6:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart in Edinburg, TX, on March 31, 2026, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Funeraria del Angel Highland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6705 North Fm 88, Weslaco, Texas 78596, on March 31, 2026, at 11:00 am.
Above all, Onesimo will be remembered as a good husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His legacy of love, faith, and dedication to family will live on in all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
