With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Reymundo Godwin-Gonzalez, who was born on July 10, 1980, in Houston, Texas, to Roger Dale Godwin and Bertha Gonzalez. Rey’s life was taken far too soon after he suffered a hemorrhagic stroke from which he was unable to recover. Though his time with us was brief, the impact he made will be felt forever.
Rey was known by many affectionate names—“Rey Rey” to those closest to him and “Sniper” to friends who admired his sharp wit and unmistakable presence. He was a true lover of life, someone who embraced each day with enthusiasm, laughter, and heart. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, Rey’s passion for his team was only rivaled by his love for family, friends, and the joy of living.
Rey’s passing leaves an ache that words can scarcely describe. He was simply too young, and his absence is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. While we grieve his loss, we find comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved nephew, Michael Diaz, who preceded him in death.
Left to cherish Rey’s memory are his loving parents: Bertha Rubio-Gonzalez of Weslaco and Roger Dale Godwin of Houston; his siblings: Maria “Lisa” Rubio and Maria “Lenny” Rubio of Weslaco; Alicia (Sean) Reis of Spokane, Washington; Francisco (Melissa) Gonzales of Weslaco; and Patricia (Casey) Fain of Weslaco. He also leaves behind his beloved girlfriend, Jessie Angel Dawson of Quincy, Washington, who brought him great happiness and love.
Rey is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
Though he is no longer with us in body, Reymundo Godwin-Gonzalez will live on through the memories, laughter, and love he shared so freely. He will be immensely missed and never forgotten.
