San Juanita Treviño, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, devoted Catholic, and cherished educator, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at her residence in Mercedes, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 11, 1954, in Mercedes, San Juanita dedicated over 20 years of her life to teaching at Donna ISD and later at Dr. R.E. Margo Elementary in Weslaco ISD. Her passion for education touched countless children’s lives, inspiring many with her kindness, patience, and unwavering commitment to their success.
San Juanita was a woman of deep faith and strong family values. She found joy in country dancing, spending quality time with her grandson Asael Ceballos III, and caring selflessly for those she loved. Her warm heart, gentle spirit, and generous nature made her the sweetest, most kind, and caring woman to all who knew her.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Jose A. Treviño; her daughter, Alijah Treviño Ceballos (Asael Ceballos Jr.); and her treasured grandson, Asael Ceballos III. She is also survived by her brothers Francisco (Leticia) Hernandez, Salvador (Gracie) Hernandez Jr., Martin (Nora) Hernandez, Antonio (Tila) Hernandez; sisters Alicia (Ramiro) Garza, Guadalupe (Stephen) Brewer, Maria de Jesus Hernandez, Juana (Rene) Cavazos; along with many nieces and nephews who adored her.
San Juanita was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Salvador and Maria de Jesus Hernandez; brother Jose de Jesus Hernandez; and sisters Ninfa (Robert) Gonzales, Margarita Hernandez, and Sylvia Hernandez.
Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family and community will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
