She was born March 2, 1918 in La Paz, Bolivia, a daughter to Maria de Jesus Verastegui de Royo and Jose Vicente Royo.
Nelly is survived by daughter Rosario "Charo" Llanos, son Jose "Pepe" Royo; brother Guillermo "Bill" Sempertegui and sister Elsa Sempertegui; grandchildren Claudia, Rudy & Ximena Llanos, Michelle Royo-West; great grandchildren Lauren Fluxha, Vincent and Antonio West, Christopher Rutherford; daughter-in-law Norah de Royo.
Nelly was preceded in death by her husband of 7 years Jose V. Royo, her granddaughter Sandra Royo, 9 siblings, and son-in-law Rodolfo J. Llanos.
She worked at a high-end luxury clothing store Guten Tag as a staff accountant from 1947 until she retired; and was one of the leaders for the Federacion de Empleados de Comercio (a Union).
She was a devout Catholic, an active member of the Legion of Mary (Legion de Maria) and volunteered at the library, also an active member of La Renovacion Carismática, and attended mass regularly.
She was the sole caregiver for her mother, Maria de Jesus, until she died at 88 years of age in 1984.
She was also a great companion and adventurer; traveled around the world usually with Charo and her family. She had the chance to see the Pope, Vatican City, Paris, London, Rio, Isla Margarita, Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, Rosarito, Arica, 5 out of 9 departments in Bolivia, 4 states in the US and traveled cross country with Rosario and Ximena in a car from Los Angeles to Florida.
A celebration of life service for Nelly will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel West Covina, 2333 West Merced Avenue, West Covina, California 91790, followed by a service at 4:00 PM.
Mass will be offered by the lovely volunteers of our parish, who brought her communion every Sunday to our home and the Hospital. Sunday October 13th, 9AM at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church 2640 E. Orange Grove Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91107
