Sylvia R. Arroyo, age 72 passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020. Sylvia was born on May 22, 1947 in Douglas, Arizona to Adela Urias and Juan “Lencho” Urias. Sylvia is survived by son Steven A. Mora; son Paul “Sanos” Mora; son Albert Arroyo; daughter-in-law Stella Mora; common-law daughter-in-law Corinna Chavez; common-law step grandsons Franky & Gabriel; common law step great-grandchildren Annie, Alivia & Joey; brother Armando Urias; sister Irma Urias and 5 Grand-Doggies (Chula, Cubby, Daisy, Bailey & Girl). She was preceded in death by; father Juan “Lencho” Urias; mother Adela Urias; brother Art Urias; and 3 Grand-Doggies (Whippet, Pinky & Rex).
Sylvia was initially a housewife, she loved being a stay at home Mom nurturing and caring for her children. They have always been her pride and joy. She had several God Children as well as nieces and nephews she enjoyed being part of their and their children’s lives. Around 1973, circumstances changed and she found herself a single parent forced to enter the working world. She initially was a secretary at a sewing factory, and moved on to a partnership of a sewing company for 3 years before the partnership was dissolved and she became the full owner of her own sewing company. Here is where she met and made many close friendships. She owned the sewing company until about 1987, and after that she worked a short stint at Scott’s Aviation, but as the economy was affecting aero-dynamic companies, she entered the Healthcare field as an Activities Coordinator. She did well in this role as she loved to make people laugh, smile and create activities based on their health abilities. Sylvia then transitioned into the Adult Care role within a similar position as an Activities Director, however, a work injury sidelined her and she was placed into an early retirement at the age of 58.
Sylvia was one of the most creative and talented people you could meet, she was a loving, giving, and good person. She loved flowers, plants, gardening, and sewing anything from clothing, costumes, curtains, blankets and even a cover for a pool table. She loved to dance and listen to music. Her cooking and baking was phenomenal – especially her corn flakes crusted stuffed pork chops and carrot or pineapple upside-down cakes. She was one of the strongest and most independent women we knew. No more pain of any form, eat & drink whatever you’d like, dance to her heart’s content, and continue to do things your way Momma Sylvia.
You will remain in our hearts forever – Rest in Paradise.
