Alice Joyce Hill, born on April 17, 1941, to her parents Robert and Alice Walker, lived a life defined by love, creativity, and devotion to family. She was a deeply caring woman whose greatest joy came from those she loved most, and she was especially inseparable from her beloved husband, Don.
Alice was the heart of her family—always present, always involved, and always ready to help. She treasured time spent together, whether that meant cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes during football season or babysitting her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She enjoyed watching television and her favorite show, The Price Is Right. One of her most memorable joys was attending a live screening of the show with Don, an experience she delighted in sharing.
A woman of many talents, Alice was endlessly creative and remarkably handy. She loved crafts of all kinds, and her family fondly remembers her annual tradition of painting pumpkins around Halloween. Sewing was another of her passions; she lovingly made clothing for her family, stitching care and thought into every piece. Her creativity also extended into entrepreneurship, as she created and ran her own balloon delivery company, bringing smiles and celebration to many.
Alice loved to travel, especially to the West Coast, where she frequently visited with family and created lasting memories. She was active and social, proudly dancing as a member of the Orange Blossom Clog Dance Group and enjoying friendship and laughter with the Red Hat Ladies Club, where she and her friends gathered for lunches dressed in their signature red or purple hats with matching outfits.
Known as the family “fixer,” Alice was never afraid to take on a repair or a challenge. She could fix just about anything, a talent Don proudly supported by making sure she always had the best tools. Her strength, independence, and determination were matched only by her warmth and generosity.
Alice was also a devoted great-grandmother. She spent countless hours helping with her great-grandchildren—picking them up from school, keeping them entertained, and filling their days with fun activities, love, and laughter.
Alice Joyce Hill will be remembered for her boundless love, her creativity, her can-do spirit, and the deep devotion she showed to her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the traditions she cherished, and the many lives she touched with her kindness and care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Leroy Hill; and her parents, Robert Walker and Alice Lee Walker (Smith).
She will be missed by her children, Belinda (Mike) Hill, Donald (Mary) Hill Jr., and Timothy (Brenda) Hill; her grandchildren, Nick Smith, Melissa Smith, Donald Hill III, Chelsie Donahue, Nate Hill, Maranda Blake, and Meghan Hill.
