Bryce Christianson, 89, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. A Memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at McLaren’s Chapel with private burial of his cremated remains in Glendale Cemetery at a later date.
Bryce was born in Bruce, Wisconsin, on June 19, 1920, the son of Carl and Clara Christianson, and lived in the Des Moines area since 1948. He graduated from Drake University Law School in 1949, and along with attorneys Don Hohnbaum and Tom George, formed the law firm of Christianson, Hohnbaum and George from which he retired. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in the Aleutian Islands and Okinawa.
Bryce is a member of Capital Masonic Lodge #110 and WPCI (Widowed Persons of Central Iowa) and for many years was a member of York Rite and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He loved music, dancing, reading and travel.
Bryce is survived by two daughters, Lana (Harlan) Halsne of Urbandale, and Rita Christianson of Clive; one sister, Inez Hultner of Oshkosh, WI; grandson, Chad Halsne of Urbandale, granddaughter, Jana Halsne of West Des Moines, grandson, Justin Christianson of Clive; long time companion, Juana Kay Peterson of West Des Moines; many nieces and nephews; and many friends around the country. He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene, and his son, Dennis.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Boy Scouts of America or Hospice of Central Iowa.
