David "Smiley" A. Williams

David Alan Williams, age 75 of Winterset, IA, passed away Monday morning on March 16, 2026. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026 at the Church of Christ in Earlham, IA with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, IA.

David Alan Williams the son of Lynn and Ruby Williams was born on January 6, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa. The family lived in Des Moines and he graduated from Des Moines Tech. Soon after graduating on July 6, 1973. Dave met his life-long sweetheart, Debra and had four children: Darla, Dawn, Dana and Drew.

David started his passion young, working for his dad at Lynn Transmissions and then moving on to be a mechanic at Cummins. Years later he started his own business, Smiley repair. He continued his business for 25 years, formally retiring in 2025. He enjoyed traveling and camping with this family throughout the summers. He always loved spending time with his kids and grandkids in their adult years. Dave was always one to crack a joke or pull a prank on anyone nearby. He was an active member at many churches throughout his lifetime and spent his Sundays with his loving family afterwards. The past few years he really dedicated his life to volunteering and helping those in need. Between helping at the food pantry, donating goods, making toys for children, handing out bibles/clothes and food to the homeless and simply holding the door open for those on Sunday mornings. He always knew how to make everyone feel special.

David is survived by his children, Darla (Greg) Davison, Dawn (Jared) Baird, Dana (Eric) Thompson, and Drew (Devin) Williams; grandchildren, Austin (Bayley) Baird, David (Anah) Cosner, Derek( Kaley) Cosner, Natalie (Andrey) Panasyuk, Natalie Cosner, Kennedy Gall, Reagan Gall and Isaac Baird; great-grandchildren, Lexe Baird, Axel Baird, Daniel Panasyuk and Nick Panasyuk along with many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra; parents; brother, Freddy Williams; along with other friends and family.
