Dorothy (Glynn) Owens

Dorothy Owens, 100, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Bishop Drumm Care Center. A funeral mass will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Peace Chapel at Bishop Drumm in Johnston, Iowa with a private family entombment at Resthaven Mausoleum.

Dorothy was born December 1, 1913 in Cumming, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Laura (Fredricks) Glynn. She grew up on a farm, graduated from North High School in Des Moines and worked briefly in the glove and floral department at Younkers. Dorothy lived over 50 years in West Des Moines and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing cards and games, and all things Christmas. Harold, her husband of 68 years, and Dorothy won several Christmas decorating contests at their West Des Moines home. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters; Beverly (Bob) Gobble-Morawitz of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Sharon (Edwin) Mohler of Polk City, Iowa and Barbara (Don) Smith of Ankeny, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents and six siblings.

Visitation with the family will follow the funeral mass on Saturday at Bishop Drumm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Dorothy’s family.
