Dr. Gordon L. Elliott, 95, died on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Dr. Elliott was born July 4, 1919 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Dr. George and Janet (Wood) Elliott. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. Dr. Elliott graduated from Des Moines College of Osteopathy and Surgery on July 5, 1947. He practiced family medicine for 40 years in West Des Moines and at the Wilden Clinic in Des Moines. Dr. Elliott was a 60 year member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church and also was involved with the Last Supper presentations. He was a 50 year member of Gnemeth Masonic Lodge #577 and a 40 year member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine where he drove children to the Shriner’s Hospital on numerous occasions. Dr. Elliott was also the past-president of Hi 12, member of the Jesters and a musician in the Grand Lodge of Iowa. He loved to volunteer, play and compose music, was a jack of all trades and loved spending time with his family.
Dr. Elliott is survived by his two sons, David (Ellen) Elliott of Urbandale and Dr. James (Rita) Elliott of West Des Moines; friend, Myrna Henderson of West Des Moines; four grandchildren, Mark N. (Wendi), Seth (Kendra), James A. and Derek Elliott; three great-grandchildren, Ty Jacob Kirby, Myah and Mason Elliott; niece, Peggy MacGregor and nephew, Larry Smith. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Dolores “Dee” Elliott and Beverly (Green) Elliott; son, Mark R. Elliott and two sisters, Edna Smith and Delys Clarke.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren’s Chapel. Because of the special care Dr. Elliott received, the family would like memorial contributions to be directed to the Good Life Fund at Scottish Rite Park.
