Sweet gentle soul...you will be missed by so many.
Ed was such a kind and compassionate person to all living things. Ed brought lots of light & energy to the world and to all those he knew.
Ed was also tremendously gifted. Ed had such a depth and vast knowledge base that he could have literally filled a library.

Although I did not know any of the family beyond Dr. McNerney,  I can say that Ed came from a father I remember as so compassionate and kind -- making housecalls when I was sick as a child, and later reassuring me when I had 'mono' at 19.   I will never forget that caring; and it sounds like Ed carried that same outlook.  My prayers and thoughts to Mother Ruth and to the siblings.  -- Mary Jane Summers Crail

Ed was a unique person with many talents!  

I loved Ed's gravelly singing voice and his wonderful bluesy harmonica style. He dabbled with the sax, too. Ed was a great dancer. He always added to jams as an active listener and lively participant. He wrote some hilarious songs, too.  He was a founding member of The Ed Band, an eclectic free-style jazz project that offered a unique twist on contemporary music only the "Eds" could create.  Also, when he was my roommate, I was lucky to listen to his diverse album collection.

Recently, Ed told me how much he truly loved his family, whose love he described as unconditional.  I offer my sincere condolences to Ed's friends and family.  Peace be with you, Ed, my soul brother.

I am so sorry to hear of Ed's passing.  The man never entered a room without putting a smile on my face!!! He loved with his whole heart, and was never afraid to express it!!! I am so sorry I won't make the celebration, as his life deserves the best!!!

I first knew of Ed as a younger brother within the McNerney family, His older brothers were my family's paperboys over the years, due to us living a couple blocks away from them. David was in my HS class, Daniel is a friend of my brother Ron. I used to walk by the McNerney's house almost daily during the summers on the way to Holiday swimming pool...The Patrick's house, McNerney's house,  Felson's house, cut through a back yard, & golf course, swimming pool....  When I did take another route to the pool and actually stayed to the sidewalks, Ed would often be playing in a teeny Florer Park that had a sidewalk by it that led from the neighborhood into Holiday Park. But, I began to know Ed as an adult when he moved in next door to me on Kingman Blvd, DM into an apartment where I used to live. I bought the house next door. I then knew him better when we both lived in Iowa City.  Later, I looked forward to talking with him when he came with his sister Bridget to various functions. Ed will be missed. He was a bright shining star.

May the McNerney family know, Ed has touched many peoples' lives, me included, in a very nice way.

I wanted to send my Condolences to the McNerney family during this difficult time.  Ed was a great guy and I am truely grateful that he was my best friend and one that I am truly going to miss.  Whenever I needed a friend Ed was always there for me.  That is a true friend.  

       Ed and I went on more journeys and adventures then I can remember and he usually always made it more fun and I am super glad he was in my life.  He really was the other brother that I didn't have and I am really gonna miss that guy!  The McNerney's are my extended family and I am grateful you all are in my life.

So fitting to celebrate his life at Walnut Woods.  I wish I could make it back home for this.  Ed and the entire family are in my thoughts.

Ed and I met at Dowling and became friends back then, and remained friend over the years. Back in the Bay Area, he gave me this light bulb with the Golden Gate Bridge inside of it. Such detailed work and he packed it up in a  little box with paper towels to protect it. I have not put it away , other than to move,  since he gave it to me and will always cherish it. He was so real, so kind and so incredibly talented in so many ways. The world is a better place because Ed was in it. I am holding all the McNerney's in my heart, in my thoughts and in my prayers. Never forget that day in Oakland. You are the coolest of the cool.  So many memories. Thank you, Ed.

Ed was a lovely person. His energy was great and he graced the garden land near Waterworks with his presence. He is missed. May he be at peace.

My sincere condolences to the McNerney family. I ran into Ed here and there during the time we both lived in Ia. City. He was always good to talk to and he turned me onto a couple really cool vintage shops. 
I in turn met new people, because of Ed. He was a good guy.
