

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Wells, 91, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2016 at Fountain West in West Des Moines. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2106 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Betty was born May 26, 1925 in Madison, WI to John and Adeline Bergen. She graduated from West High School in Madison, WI. Following graduation she married Norman E. Wells Sr. on May 24, 1945. Betty retired after over 20 years with Vocational Rehab for the State of Iowa as a data entry clerk.
Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether it was during the holidays, making her famous goulash and award winning chili or playing in a dart league. She was also an avid sports fan and was loyal to her Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa State Cyclones. One thing she was especially proud of was taking second place behind Rita Hayworth, in a beauty contest.
She is survived by her six children, Chuck (Lynn), Marianne (Ken) Botts, Jim (Trudy), Richard, Kathy (Randy) Stanford, and Norman Jr.; thirteen grandchildren, Kelly (Jason) Victor and their children, Dylan, Erin, and Evan; Charlie (Andi) Wells and their children, Ryen and Will; Johnna (Dave) Barker and their children, Drew, Elle, and Ben; Chris (Mollie) Botts and their children, Reese and Braylon; Teresa (Mike) Canine and their children, Tyler, Gabe and Katelyn; Jimmy (Mindy) Wells and their children, Carter and Brienne; Chalise (Charles) Brunecz and their child, Parker; Lindsey (Scott) Griswold and their children, Payton, Gideon, and Vada; Brittany Wells and Mason Wells; Jessica Stanford Hood; Sara (Ben) Kruckenberg and son, Conner Pettiecord; and Sean Stanford; sister, Lilian Leone; and many nieces and nephews. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Richard.
