Ethel Thomas, 97, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2016 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery.
Ethel was born March 14, 1919, in Mystic, Iowa to Josiah and Vina (Towberman) Dickey. Ethel was an avid reader, liked to travel and enjoyed any kind of sewing, knitting and crocheting. In her spare time she liked to work with porcelain dolls and put them together from scratch, and even made the clothes she dressed them in.
Ethel is survived by her sons, James (Susan) Thomas of Montezuma, Iowa and David Thomas of Claremore, Oklahoma; daughter, Raletta Thomas of Luana, Iowa; seven grandkids; and her beloved dog, Rascal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers; husband, James, who passed in 1970; two daughters, Belva and Marietta; and one grandson, James Constant.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa, 903 5th Ave., Decorah, Iowa 52101.
