Jack Daniel Barron, Jr.,age 68, retired Des Moines postal
employee, passed away, Friday, March 16, 2012. Funeral
services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2012
at McLaren’s Chapel, 801 19th, West Des Moines, IA.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack
Daniel Barron of West Des Moines. He is survived by
his mother, Eilene Barron-Duncan of Junction City,
KS; sister, Debbie Barron of Geneva, IL;
son, Kevin Barron of Wichita, KS; and two grandchildren,
Kourtney Barron and Konner Barron of Rose Hill, KS.
The older of two children of Jack and Eilene Barron,
he was born in Des Moines, IA on June 24, 1943. At the
age of 14, he was on the local Babe Ruth baseball team
that made it to the Babe Ruth World Series in 1957.
Jack was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball,
baseball, and track at Valley High and graduated in
1961. He attended the University of Northern Iowa
(UNI) and Oklahoma State University (OSU) where he
played baseball.
Jack served his community as a firefighter in Des
Moines before working for the United States Postal
Service where he later retired in 2005. He was an avid
outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, and golf. He
loved all sports and was a fan of Iowa State University
and Drake University athletics. Jack’s true passion was
thoroughbred horse racing. He was an owner of a
horse named “No Stop” who he raced at Ak-Sar-Ben
Race Track in Omaha, NE.
Jack had a zest for life and a love for his family
where he spent the last 13 months of his life
living closer to his son and grandchildren in
Kansas. He was truly a gift to his friends and family
who will miss him and think about him every day.
