Jeannie E. Andrew

Jeannie Ellen Andrew, 86, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Eden Acres Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines with a celebration of life at 11 a.m. at McLaren’s. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Jeannie was born August 16, 1938 in Mason City to Randolph and Thelma (Spragg) Buhr. She spent her early years in Manly before moving to Waterloo in her teen years. Her family then made their way to the Des Moines area. She met Richard Andrew, dressed in his Navy uniform at the Iowa State Fair and the two married on the first day of spring in 1959. After Richard’s military service they settled in Urbandale where they raised three children, Suzanne, Rick, and John.

Jeannie worked at Dr. Winjum’s ophthalmology clinic in the Merle Hay Mall for over 30 years. She was a member of the Urbandale Golf and Country Club and the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church (where they were married). She was an amazing cook! Her greatest joy came from cooking for her family. On Sunday’s everyone knew a full meal was waiting for anyone who wanted to stop by for a visit.

Jeannie found joy in making costumes for her grandchildren and dearly enjoyed arts and crafts. While her last years were difficult her love of family visits remained strong and brought joy to her heart.

Jeannie is survived by her sons, Rick (Kathi) and John; son-in-law, Gary Peter; nine grandchildren, Bobby Reese, Mickenzie (Joe) Nelson, Jillian, Chelsea and Whitney Peter, Scott, Briana, and Trey Andrew, and Emerson Andrew; six great-grandchildren, Sophia, Richard, Corey, Gabe, Kalima, and Ariana. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard; brother, Ron; daughter, Suzanne; and daughter-in-law, Angie.
