Joy Beck, 75, passed away from complications of frontal temporal dementia on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, West Des Moines, with a memorial service at noon. Immediately after the service, friends are invited to join the family for a celebration lunch at Maxie's Restaurant in West Des Moines. A private inurnment will be held at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.
Joy was born October 23, 1939 in Leavenworth, KS. She had lived in the Des Moines area for 52 years. Joy worked as a bookkeeper and comptroller for Lozier Heating and Cooling, Wright Tree Service, and Corell Contractors. She was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, and served in the areas of finance, evangelism, Stephen's Ministry, and board secretary. Joy loved spending time with her family, traveling, and following University of Kansas Jayhawk basketball.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Eldon Cross) Beck-Cross of Grimes; and two grandsons, Alec Beck-Cross of Grimes and Ian Beck-Cross of Des Moines. She also leaves behind her former husband, Norm Beck of Des Moines and his two sisters, Vickey Mai Beck of La Harpe, KS and Barbara Lang of Glendale, AZ; and niece, Joy Lynn Mozena and her daughter, Jasmine. Joy was preceded in death by her sister, Minnie Marie Bruce and mother, Mildred Lucille Jackson.
