It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Katy May. She was a woman who embodied the true essence of love, warmth, and compassion. Katy was born on January 19, 1944 to Ralph and Ann Dunn, in Des Moines, Iowa, and died peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. She was 80 years old.
Throughout her life, Katy touched the lives of countless individuals with her selfless nature and genuine concern for others. A meticulous housekeeper and hostess, she took great pride in creating a warm and inviting home, where family and friends were always welcome. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel special, always going above and beyond to ensure that those around her felt cherished and valued.
Katy was a hard worker, never shying away from any task or challenge. She had the privilege of choosing motherhood as a career; one at which she excelled beyond measure.
While duly proud of her marriage, children, and grandchildren, Katy was humble and without pretense. She never sought recognition or praise for her actions, but instead found fulfillment in the happiness and well-being of others. Her selflessness and genuine nature earned the respect and admiration of all who knew her.
One of Katy’s most endearing qualities was her sense of humor. Though her family teased her relentlessly, she always enjoyed the humor and usually laughed the loudest at herself. Her hand often covered her mouth when she laughed, a gesture that embodied her modesty and grace.
Katy leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us as we navigate the journey of life without her physical presence.
She will be deeply missed by Charlie, her husband of 58-years, their daughter Mary Ann (Matt) Marsh of Norwalk, Iowa, their son Brian (Robin) May of San Francisco, California, their son Kevin (Ellen) May of Chicago, Illinois, and 10 grandchildren who adored her. She is also survived by her brother Jim Dunn of Des Moines, Iowa and sister, Judy Palmer of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in West Des Moines, Iowa on Monday February 19th. Visitation will be from 9-10am with a funeral mass to follow at 10am. We invite all who were touched by her kindness and grace to join us in celebrating her remarkable life. A private family burial at Resthaven Cemetery will follow.
May Katy's faithful soul find eternal peace with her Father in heaven, and may her light continue to shine upon us all.
