Patricia (Pat) McGuiness, 76, died Friday morning July 1, 2011, due to heart complications. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Pat was born June 23, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa to Norman and Katherine Westfall. She graduated from Valley High School and on June 29, 1954 she married John McGuiness. Pat was a homemaker, raising six daughters while John ran the family business. The family lived in Windsor Heights for several years and later moved to West Des Moines. Pat was a Golf Professional, teaching at Willow Creek Golf Course in Des Moines, Iowa in her younger days. She was active in the Girls City Golf Tournament, also competing in Husband and Wife Golf Tournaments over the years before she retired from golf due to health issues. She enjoyed shopping, going out to restaurants with her husband and family and interacting with family and friends as much as possible.
Pat is survived by her husband of 57 years, John; stepmother, Irene Westfall; children, Terri Artis, Linda Hansen, Sandy Cornwell (Steve), Mary Jo LaPole (Steve), Brenda O'Neal, and Debra McGuiness; sisters, Jean Ward of Indiana and Kay Conard (LeRoy) of Georgia; brother, Don Westfall of Missouri; ten grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, John Michael and grandson, Bobby Abrams.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at McLaren's Chapel with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
