Phyllis Curnes, 91, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. A Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel with inurment in Resthaven Mausoleum. Following the service the family will visit with friends from 3 to 5 p.m. at McLaren’s Reception Room.
Phyllis was born and raised in Muscatine, IA the daughter of Clarence and Mae Eitman. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1944 and then served as a stewardess for United Airlines. In 1946 she married Dr. Ronald W. Curnes and moved to Windsor Heights. She was very involved in community activities and as a longtime member at Windsor Presbyterian Church. Phyllis was also active in her sorority alumni group, Kappa Alpha Theta.
She is survived by her son, Peter (Carol) Curnes and daughter, Nancy (Richard) Lynch, both of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Nicole (Marty Davis) McLuen, Justin McLuen, Myles Curnes, Kate (Armando) Ramos, Ryan (Amber) Lynch and Emily (R.J.) Rademacher; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
