Robert L. (Bob) Brown, 93, went home to heaven on Monday, April 30, 2018 at his home in West Des Moines. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines. Gravesdie services will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines with military honors.
Bob was born October 13, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa to William and Evelyn (Davis) Brown. He graduated from North High School in 1942. Bob joined the U.S. Navy in June 1942 and was on the USS Gherardi. Following the Navy, he worked at the Post Office for 42 years. After he worked his shift at the Post Office he went to work at his second job at North America Van Lines. Bob worked there for 20 years, took one year off and then worked 10 years at the Athletic Department at Drake University.
Bob met his wife Marjorie J. Dotson on a blind date in April 1949 and they married in October 1949. They had three children together, Renee, Linda and Rory. Marjorie had a son, Mike Dotson from a first marriage. Bob has four grandchildren, Tina, Shawn, Lisa and Janae. He was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Seth, Selby, Nate, Ella, Halley, Cooper, Gia, Logan, Eden, Maxwell, and one on the way. Bob has two nieces, Carla and Julie and two nephews, Richard and Doug. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; son, Rory; step-son, Mike; parents; three brothers, William, Max and Richard and two nephews, James and Chris.
