

Robert “Bob” Sherlock, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801-19th St., West Des Moines, IA 50265. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Cemetery
Bob was born January 30, 1937 in Monticello, IA to Joe and Lillian Sherlock. He was raised in
Worthington, IA and graduated high school at St. Paul Catholic School at the age of 17. He attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago before being hired as a lineman for NW Bell in Dubuque. In 1957 he was promoted to a Combination Man and was transferred to Anamosa where he met his wife, Bev Davidson. They were married at St. Patrick’s Church on October 11, 1958 and spent 64 good years together. He was promoted many times, and was moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, Des Moines, Naperville, IL and back to Des Moines where he retired as an engineer in 1986. He then worked in Cedar Rapid for 2 years for Teleconnect and then accepted a job with Iowa Network Services and retired at the age of 76 as Vice President of Engineering. He had a total of 59 years in the phone business.
Bob was a fan of most sports but especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears, New York Yankees, NASCAR, Iowa State Cyclones and the Iowa Hawkeyes. After retirement he spent most of his days reading many, many books and working on jigsaw puzzles. Bob sang in the Traditional Choir at Sacred Heart for many years. He and Bev ran the Bingo concessions for the church and also played big part in the Upstairs Downstairs shows at the school in the 70’s. Bob was also very active on the Sacred Heart school board.
He is survived by his wife, Bev; son, Greg (Ann); daughters, Susan (John) and Stephanie (Tim);
Granddaughters, Jennifer, Lizzy, Kate and Sarah. He was so very proud of his granddaughters.
Bob is also survived by his brother, Don (Therese); sisters, Sr. Terese and Karen Middleton; and sisters-in-law, Judy Albaugh and Patty Davidson; and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maureen Recker; and brother, Dave (who was killed in Vietnam); and brothers-in-law, George Recker and Rolf Middleton.
Bob was a very kind, generous and caring man so the family has requested in lieu of flowers a
memorial in his name be made to a charity of your choice. He was especially fond of the ARL, the Food Bank of Iowa and Sacred Heart School.
